Northern Gateway Pipeline Project

Recently, we have been studying the Northern Gateway Pipeline project at school. You ask what the project is for? Well here it is, the Northern Gateway pipeline is a project started by the Canadian Oil Company, Enbridge, to transport the oil sands from Alberta, to the coast of BC then they will be  transported across the ocean via tankers to China. Not only that there will be oil going to China, but it is also going to the U.S. The Canadian government is still deciding if they want the pipeline project put through. There are many ways that the pipeline will help, but there are also many ways other ways that the pipeline could go horribly wrong. Nothing is truly safe, people just think that it is safe, and the safest the it will be. According to Enbridge, the pipeline will be 1,177 km in length and 36 in diameter and carrying an average of 525,000 barrels of petroleum per day. My current view on this is that I am in the middle between against and for, because there are so many reasons why we need that pipeline to be built, but then there are so many risks, and errors that may happen, not only that, the environment will be wrecked. Like the Great Bear Rainforest because the tankers have to go past that to get to China.
